About Me

About Me

Hi! I'm Uresha, better known as Rachel to many and I'm so happy you're here to share this journey with me. I'm a Gujarati gal and have been gifted with one life and I want to live it to the fullest. As I approach my 50th birthday this year, I reflect on many things. I'm a boy mom to 3 incredible young men and married to my best friend of 27 amazing years. I have a great career with an organization that promotes family first. Not to mention, I can work in my pajamas every day if I choose to. I have a support system of 4 wonderful parents who are the pillars of my life. And I have a fierce girl gang that keeps me sane.  Trust me, it may sound like I'm bragging, but I'm not. I share this with the most authentic and humble heart. Along the way, through building this beautiful life, I have worked very hard to sustain these special relationships and I often ask myself if I'm doing enough. For anyone who knows me, I don't do anything half-assed. Through my anxiety, writing has always helped me express myself. Maybe it's just mindfulness because when someone close to me has been struggling, I try to find the right words to help them feel better, try to help make sense of their problem, or for them to know I'm there to listen and only share my perspective if they want it. There is a huge difference between giving unsolicited advice and sharing your perspective when asked for it.  I'm not a strong, religious person, but I spiritually believe there is a faceless, higher power that protects us. Practicing gratitude daily helps me appreciate my successes and learn from my failures. Even on the best days, the failures keep me honest with myself because history can easily repeat itself. Life comes in waves and we have to ride the highs and the lows.

As Gujarati women, we live in a  blended community where the values of the Hindu society and the American dream sometimes collide. I wanted to create this platform as a safe space where I can share what helps me balance life, enjoy simple pleasures, and overcome the struggles that many of us face. We hold the key to unlock unchartered waters by understanding the “why” behind a situation. Educating ourselves and opening our minds is the key to addressing these elements. Some days, our responsibilities are all so difficult to navigate amongst the normal chaos of life. They challenge us with many experiences and along the way, change us to evolve as women.  Reading, writing, and crafting have always been my passions and an outlet to relieve anxiety. Starting a blog has been a long-term goal because my feelings are best expressed through my words. I don't think I could work for Hallmark to write greeting cards, but if Wisdom In Waves resonates with even a handful of people, I would call it a win. Most importantly addiction and mental health issues have hit very close to home and using this platform to share how I have navigated this part of my life, may be helpful to some of you. Full disclosure, I am not a healthcare professional and will only share my own experiences, but will certainly share resources and tools that have helped me. I am continuously searching for support and anything you can share with me will help in my journey.

My "Why"

My Mission

The intention of starting this blog is to build community and share experiences organically. We don’t have to identify as the same nationality, or gender or even be from the same demographic or economic social background. I am Indian and will make references like "desi or guju" which in slang means Hindu and/or Gujarati. Photos used in my blog are stock photos and not of anyone I know. Respect and privacy for those in my life are the most important and I will never reference anyone by name or share photos unless I have permission. In a world of social media, our privacy is always at risk where so much information is shared.  People forget how much free knowledge is out there. We have the luxury of learning a new skill by watching TikTok or YouTube. Why not use these platforms to support and learn from each other? The topics I'll talk about are common conversations I hear about or have experienced myself. My perspective may be different from yours, but I'd love to hear them. Our views can be different and that is such a beautiful thing. The perspective through a different lens teaches us to open our minds and relate to others. It may even teach us a little about humility. We'll talk about life, relationships, stigma, cultural diaspora, beauty, wellness, fashion, and a sea of other topics. Join me in embracing the beauty of mid-life and beyond with wisdom, resilience, strength and lots of humor!
